There
are two types of boards: directional and twin tips. Directional
boards are used primarily to go in one direction, down the hill,
while twins are used mostly in the parks. The shape of the tips
and tails and the flex pattern dictate what a board is best
suited for. Keep in mind, however, that you can do just about
anything with any board, its just that some boards are
better for certain types of riding then others. Ask yourself
what you will be doing the most - going from top to bottom or
living in the parks, and then decide on a style of board.
What
about size? We choose a board by how much you weigh. On the
back of most boards is a chart providing weight ranges for that
particular model of board. If you chose a board size in the
bottom of the suggested range, it will be less maneuverable
(harder to turn) and more stable at higher speeds. Of course,
the opposite holds true for a board where you fall into the
higher end of a weight range. Want a rule-of-thumb? Stand up
straight next to the board. A board coming to the top of your
head will be good for high speed cruising. A board coming to
your mouth will be easier to turn.
